Ireland Visa Tracking Options: Weekly Decisions and Application Status
The right tracking option depends on where the visa application was submitted
- Applications sent to the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) visa office in Dublin can be checked on the ISD Visa Decisions page, which lists recent applications that have been approved or refused
- Applications sent to an ISD or Irish visa office outside Ireland can be checked using that office’s weekly or routine visa decision report, which lists application numbers and whether they were approved or refused
- Applications handled directly by an Irish embassy or consulate may be listed on that mission’s visa decisions page, or you may need to wait for the embassy or consulate to contact you once a decision has been made, as some missions do not provide individual status updates
- Applications submitted through VFS Global can be tracked on the VFS website using your reference number, and you may receive email updates and, in some locations, SMS notifications about your application status

Overview Of Visa Application Tables
Checking an application submitted to the ISD visa office in Dublin involves a couple of steps
When ISD receives a visa application or appeal, it groups it into a queue for that visa or preclearance category and publishes indicative processing dates for each category on its website.
Each week, the Dublin visa office updates three sets of information that help applicants understand how their case is progressing
- Visa processing dates
- Preclearance processing dates
- Recent decisions
Decision dates may not move for every category between updates, so an unchanged date does not necessarily mean that nothing has happened with your own application
The Visa Processing Dates Table
This table shows an indicative “received date currently being processed” for each visa application or appeal type.
Only applications received on or before the date shown for that visa type are currently being processed; applications received after that date are still awaiting pickup.
For example, if the table shows that study visa applications received up to 1 February are being processed, a study visa application received on 2 February will not be processed until the processing date for that category moves beyond 2 February
An application can take several days, or even weeks, to reach the Dublin visa office after it is sent, so there may be a gap between when you submit your documents and when your application appears in the processing queue.
The Preclearance Processing Dates Table
This table works in the same way as the visa processing dates table, but covers Irish preclearance applications instead.
There are separate queues for preclearance applications and appeals, and individual processing dates are listed for each preclearance category on the ISD site.
The Recent Decisions Table
The recent decisions listing shows the outcomes of processed applications and appeals, with the application number displayed alongside the result, either approved or refused.

Tracking Visa Applications Made to the Immigration Service Delivery Internationally
Applications sent to an ISD visa office outside Ireland are tracked through that office’s weekly decision reports, which list every application decided over the past week.
These are published as PDF tables, with the application number next to the outcome (approved or refused). Some offices go a bit further and add the visa type or a short refusal reason alongside the decision.
Checking on an application that’s still being processed is trickier. Local processing-time guidance is worth a look first, but most offices won’t respond to a routine “any update?” email, they generally only get back to applicants once a decision is made, or in a genuine emergency.
Tracking Ireland Visa Applications Made Through VFS Global
Applications submitted through VFS Global trigger an email once the Irish authorities have returned a decision to the visa centre that handled the file.
SMS updates are sometimes available too, which is worth knowing if email isn’t easy to check or more detailed tracking is wanted, though it depends on whether the local visa application centre offers that service.
The application status can also be checked online directly through VFS Global by entering the reference number from the invoice or receipt the centre issued, along with the applicant’s last name.
Where Are the ISD’s International Visa Offices Located?
The Irish Immigration Service and the Department of Foreign Affairs run visa offices and visa desks in several countries outside Ireland, each covering a specific region and publishing its own decision reports.
These international visa offices currently include:
- Beijing (China)
- New Delhi (India)
- Abuja (Nigeria)
- Moscow (Russia)
- South Africa (South Africa Visa Desk)
- Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates)
- London (United Kingdom)
- Ankara (Türkiye)
The format isn’t identical across offices, some publish a weekly decision report, others a weekly decision list, and a few just upload decisions on a rolling basis rather than a fixed schedule.
Anyone whose country falls outside these regional offices should check the visa pages for their nearest Irish embassy or consulate.
Most missions only make contact once a decision has been reached, so a routine “any update?” enquiry often goes unanswered.
What Happens If My Visa Application Is Refused?
A refusal decision is normally accompanied by a refusal letter. It explains the reasons for the decision and confirms whether an appeal is available.
From 1 June 2026, short stay (Type C) visa refusals generally can’t be appealed anymore. Anyone still wanting to travel usually needs to address the reasons in the refusal letter and submit a fresh application instead.
There’s one exception: certain short-stay applications made under the EU Free Movement Directive may still carry an appeal right. The refusal letter will say whether that applies.
Long-stay visas and preclearance routes are different; where an appeal is available, the letter explains how and where to send it.
How long that takes depends on the visa office and its caseload, so it’s worth submitting a complete appeal as early as possible rather than leaving gaps to fill later.
