Requirements For The Sponsoring Family Member In The UK

Your relative in the UK must meet the following requirements when you are applying for an Adult Dependent visa to join them. The UK sponsor must:

• Be able to provide evidence that they can financially provide for you during your time in the UK
• Be able to provide evidence that they can adequately provide long term personal care for you
• Be able to accommodate you during your time in the UK

They must also meet one of the following conditions:

• They are a British citizen
• They have indefinite leave to remain or ILR status/ settled status in the UK
• They have refugee status in the UK
• They hold humanitarian status in the UK

Eligibility Requirement for The Adult Dependent

The Adult Dependent visa has more strict criteria that must be met for eligibility than some other visas and is more difficult to get approved for.

In order to be eligible for this visa, you must show that you require long-term care due to an illness, disability, or old age.

You must be unable to live independently and be able to provide evidence that they require care that can only be obtained from your British relative – for example, an elderly parent who will be cared for by an adult child. The sole carer must provide assistance with everyday tasks such as washing, cooking, and getting dressed.

In general, the eligibility requirements for the Adult Dependent Visa in the UK are:

• Applicant must be aged 18 years or older at the time of the visa application
• Applicant must be the child, parent, sibling, or grandparent of someone in the UK who is either a British citizen, a person who is permanently settled in the UK, or someone with refugee status or humanitarian status.
• Applicants must be able to provide evidence that the level of care they require cannot be obtained in Canada and can only be obtained from a British relative in the UK for practical or financial reasons.
• Applicants must be able to provide evidence that they will be supported fully by their family in the UK, including providing accommodations, and that they will not need to rely on public funds during their time in the UK

Required Documents

In order to apply for the Adult Dependent visa in the UK you will need to provide personal details and documents including the following:

• Your name
• Your date of birth
• Your current and valid passport
• Prior passports and immigration applications
• Details of any criminal convictions
• Information about your family member in the UK
• Proof of your relationship to your family members in the UK who are sponsoring your visas, such as birth certificates or other official documents
• Proof that you as the applicant will require long-term personal care as a result of either disability, age, or illness. For example, a letter or records from a doctor
• Proof that you are not currently able to obtain the level of care you require in Canada. This can also be a letter or records from a doctor or other healthcare professional

You will also need a written letter from your sponsoring family member that they will be responsible for your care and accommodation for a minimum of 5 years and that you will not be claiming public funds in the UK.

Additionally, if your reason for going to the UK is based on financial support, you will need to provide evidence for why the sponsoring family member is unable to support you financially in your country. If the required level of care is available and affordable under these terms in Canada, your application for the Adult Dependent Visa may be rejected. You must make sure to provide sufficient evidence as to why you can only obtain the proper level of care in the UK.

Gather Documents And Apply Online

You can apply for the Adult Dependent Visa in the UK on the gov.uk website if you are in Canada. Unlike other visas, under the current immigration rules, you cannot switch to this visa from another visa while you are in the UK. You will need to complete the application form Appendix 1 VAF4A.

You will need to gather your supporting documentation to submit along with your application. It is important to have a thorough portfolio of documentation that supports your case for the Adult Dependent visa.

Once you fill out your application and submit your documentation, you will need to make an appointment at a visa center to have your biometric information was taken (fingerprints and a photograph).

You will receive notification if you need to take any further steps to complete your visa processing after your application has been submitted. If additional documentation is requested it is crucial to submit this within the timeline given to avoid your visa application being rejected.

Currently, the application fee for the Adult Dependent Visa in the UK is £3,250. You will also have to pay a small fee for biometric information for your Biometric Residence Permit when you attend your appointment. You may incur additional fees from any third parties you work with in order to obtain the necessary documentation for the visa.

In the event that your relative is a refugee or an individual with humanitarian protection status, then the Adult Dependent Visa application fee will be reduced to an amount of £388.

Note that visa application fees are generally non-refundable, so it is best to double-check the application before you send it in. In the event that you cancel your application prior to it being processed by the UK Visas and Immigration office, you may be able to request a refund.
