Do Egyptians Need a Visa To Work In The UK?

UK employers who wish to hire employees from Egypt must note that Egyptian citizens need a visa to work in the UK. A UK employer must sponsor Egyptian employees who apply for a work visa.

You must have a valid sponsor licence to sponsor an Egyptian’s work visa application as a UK employer. The sponsor licence is an authorisation issued by the Home Office to UK businesses that enables them to employ talents from overseas.

You’ll also need to issue the employee a valid job contract outlining their role, occupation code and salary. This is necessary to prove to the Home Office that the employment is not a hoax.

The employer should check if the Egyptian candidate is qualified to do the job for which they are being employed.

Lastly, the candidate must demonstrate that they have adequate knowledge of the English language.

The UK work visa will permit your employee to work for you for up to 5 years. One of the benefits of the work visa for your employees is that it is renewable and can lead to permanent residency and British citizenship.

Employers who want to hire from Egypt must also ensure they can pay the minimum wage stipulated by the Home Office.

It is important to note that there are different types of UK work visas. Each comes with different requirements for the UK employer and the Egyptian employee.

The Different UK Work Visas For Egyptians

Below are the different types of UK work visas. The one your employee from Egypt will need to apply for depends on what they are coming to do for you.

    UK Skilled Worker Visa

The UK Skilled Worker visa is one of the most popular work visas. Egyptians skilled in a job listed on the UK’s list of eligible jobs can apply for this visa.

For your employees to apply for a Skilled Worker visa, you must issue them a job offer and a certificate of sponsorship (COS).

Before you can issue those, you must have a valid sponsor licence. You can check here for more details on how to get a sponsor licence as a UK employer.

With the skilled worker visa, your employee can move to the UK with their family. They must also prove that they have enough money to take care of their family size for at least one month in the UK.

This requirement is waived if you undertake to cover their living cost in their first month.

You must indicate in the certificate of sponsorship that you issued that you will do so.

The Skilled Worker visa’s validity is 3 to 5 years.

    Documents Needed

    • Certificate of sponsorship reference number.
    • Proof of English language proficiency.

The application fee for the Skilled Worker visa ranges from £719 to £1,500, depending on your situation.

You’ll also need to pay the healthcare surcharge of £624 annually.

It takes the Home Office 3 weeks to process this visa.

    Health and Care Worker Visa

The Health and Care Worker visa permits medical workers or those working in adult social care to work for the NHS or an NHS supplier in the UK.

If you are a UK health service provider, you can employ eligible Egyptians to provide healthcare services in the UK. Just like the Skilled Worker visa, you’ll need to offer the employee a job and issue a certificate of sponsorship.

The job you are offering must come with a salary that meets the minimum wage stipulated by the Home Office.

To do this, you must hold a valid sponsor licence.

Unlike the Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker visa applicants do not need to pay for health surcharge.

This visa gives the applicant up to 5 years of stay in the UK, after which they can permanent settlement in the UK.

Your Egyptian employee can come to the UK with their family.

    Documents Needed

    • Proof of adequate knowledge of English.
    • Certificate of sponsorship from the employer.
    • Egyptian passport.
    • Details of the employer.
    • Employment offer showing the job title, role, salary and occupation code.
    • Bank statement showing enough money (£1270) for at least 1 month. This requirement is waived if the employer agrees to support the employee.
    • Birth and marriage certificates if travelling with family.
    • Criminal record certificate if the job needs it.

You’ll need to pay £284 per person for a 3-year visa.

You’ll need to pay £551 per person for a 5-year visa.

It takes the Home Office 3 weeks to process this visa.
