What Is The Global Talent Visa And Who Is It For?
The Global Talent Visa, which replaced the Exceptional Talent Visa, is aimed at those individuals who excel and have potential in the fields of academia and research, digital technology and arts and culture.
It is important to be able to show that you possess exceptional talent either as a potential leader or as an established professional as part of the qualifying criteria for the UK Visa.
Therefore, applicants must obtain an official endorsement from a Home Office-approved endorsing body or be able to prove they have been awarded an internationally renowned prize during their career.
However, a key advantage is that the visa does not require sponsorship, so any potential employer does not need to apply for a Sponsor Licence to recruit a Global Talent Visa holder.
Also, there is no limit to the number of people they can recruit via the Global Talent route so businesses are well placed to benefit from talented from around the world.

You should consider seeking advice from an immigration professional if you are unsure about your options for moving to the UK from Egypt. Contact our team by either calling +44 (0)333 305 9375 or contacting us online.
The first step towards applying for a Global Talent Visa is to obtain an approved endorsement and you must have this in place before your visa application can be approved. The application must be made to the Home Office which will then pass on to the most appropriate endorsing body.
Once you have received confirmation of your endorsement request being approved you should complete the Global Talent Visa form online. You will then need to book an appointment at your nearest Visa Application Centre in Egypt.
At the interview, you will be required to provide your biometrics, including fingerprints, as well as present your supporting paperwork for assessment. You will also need to pay the appropriate Global Talent Visa application fee at this time and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Applying for a UK Global Talent Visa can be daunting so you may wish to consult with an immigration expert for guidance on the best way to make your application.

Global Talent Visa UK Document Requirements
One of the most important steps in applying for a Global Talent Visa is providing the Home Office with sufficient supporting paperwork. If you fail to include the correct documents then you may have your visa request denied.
You may be required to include the following documents in support of your application:
- A passport with at least two blank pages for the visa stamp
- Letter from the endorsing body confirming your endorsement
- Up-to-date CV
- Evidence of your work and why it has been classed as exceptional, this can include awards, publications and media references
- Letters of support from other industry leaders
- Negative tuberculosis (TB) test
Depending on the field you are applying for a Global Talent Visa under, there are other requirements.
If you are applying as an academic leader or researcher, then you need to provide a letter from your host in the UK outlining your role and how you were openly recruited to the position.
Those seeking a Global Talent Visa to be involved in research grant work should submit a letter from the funder of the grant showing the work will last up to two years and is worth at least £30,000.
If you are applying under the art and culture or the digital technology fields, then you will need to provide three recommendations from leading bodies or people who can confirm your qualifications and the potential benefits of you working in the UK.
All documents must be in English or Welsh otherwise you must provide certified translated copies with your application.
At Total Law we can check your documents to ensure you are providing the correct evidence. Get in touch if you have questions about what evidence is needed to result in a successful application.
Bringing Dependants on a Global Talent Visa
One key benefit of the Global Talent Visa is that holders are permitted to bring dependent family members to the UK with them.
A qualifying dependant partner or child must be one of the following:
- Your husband, wife, civil partner or unmarried partner
- Your child under 18, including if they were born in the UK during your stay
- Your child over 18 if they’re currently in the UK as your dependant
You’ll need to provide evidence of the qualifying relationship as part of the application process and pay the appropriate visa fee.
If you have questions regarding your dependent’s eligibility then reach out to the team at Total Law for help and advice.
Application Fees for UK Global Talent Visa
The cost of applying for an exceptional talent visa UK does vary depending if you are required to pay for an endorsement.
If you are applying under holding an eligible award then you are not required to pay the cost of endorsement separately and will need to pay the total £205 when making your application.
For those applying via the endorsement process then £561 must be paid when making the initial request for the endorsing body and a further £205 when submitting the visa application.
If you plan to bring any dependents to the UK then £766 must be paid for each separate visa application.
In addition, the annual Immigration Healthcare Surcharge of £1035 will need to be paid. This provides access to the UK National Health Service during your time in the country.
Global Talent Visa Application Processing Time
The time taken to process a Global Talent Visa can vary significantly. If you are applying from outside the UK, for example in Egypt, then it can take three to four weeks.
However, if applying from the UK and switching from another UK visa then the process can take around two months.
Applicants should be aware that this does not include the time taken to apply for an endorsement, which can add extra time to the overall process.
In most cases, being granted an endorsement can take up to eight weeks, especially if the awarding bodies are facing high demand or have existing backlogs.
It may be possible to apply for priority processing of your Global Talent Visa application. While paying this extra charge can speed up the process, it does not increase the chances of the application being approved.
Global Talent Visa Validity Period & Renewal Extension Options
A Global Talent Visa is usually issued for five years and can be renewed as many times as you wish as long as you continue to meet the requirements. You should also apply for the extension before your current Global Talent Visa expires.
You will be granted permission to extend your stay in the UK if one of the following applies:
- You initially applied based on an endorsement, and that endorsement has not been withdrawn
- You applied based on an eligible award you received and that award has not been withdrawn
If you are in the UK with dependents they then will need to also apply to extend their visa or switch to another visa route.
It is also possible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after living in the UK with a Global Talent Visa and eventually UK citizenship if desired.
Depending on which field and your level of talent, ILR status can be applied for within three to five years. For more information about settling permanently in the UK you should contact our expert team at Total Law about your options for remaining in the country.
