Here’s how to apply for the visa:

Step 1: Gather the documents.

• A valid Egyptian passport with at least 6-months validity remaining.
• Two passport-sized photos that meet the requirements set by the UK Home Office.
• An original marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate.
• Evidence of your relationship (e.g. shared bills, photographs, travel documents, etc).
• Proof you have the financial means (e.g. latest bank or savings statements, wage slips)
• If not exempt, demonstrate English language proficiency at level A1 (CEFR).

• Your partners national insurance number (if they have one)
• You need a TB test only if you are coming to the UK for six months or more, have lived in a listed country for at least six months, and lived in a listed country within the last six months.

Step 2: Complete Online Application Form

Step 3: Pay The Application Fee

Step 4: Attend Biometrics Appointment

After you have completed and submitted your application form the next step is to schedule an appointment, at either a visa application centre (VAC) in Egypt or here in the UK. During this appointment you will need to provide your fingerprints and a photograph.

At the appointment you will be asked to present all the documents and you may be asked questions about your plans when you arrive in the UK, so be prepared. Do not be late for your appointment and ensure that you have all documents and photocopies.

Step 5: Wait for Decision

Following submission of the application form, you will need to wait for a decision from the UK Home Office. Once a decision has been made they will notify you via email or mail regarding whether your visa has been approved or denied. If approved, you will be required to collect your documents, and start planning your journey.

Outside the UK, a decision usually takes 12 weeks; inside the UK, it usually takes 8 weeks if financial and English requirements are met, or around 12 months if they are not.

This is just an estimate, and the actual time it takes can vary based on a number of factors. Including the complexity of your case, such as if you have had any previous visa rejections or have a criminal history.

Other factors that could potentially extend the time it takes for the UK government to process your visa application include:

1. Providing incorrect information or not completing the application form fully.
2. An appointment not being available to have your biometric data collected.
3. If you applied during peak seasons when there are a high volume of applications.

You can renew or extend your UK Spouse Visa for a further 30-months as long as your current visa hasn’t expired. You must continue to meet the visa requirements and will be required to provide up to date documents.

• A current passport
• Evidence of your relationship with your partner
• Provide proof you still meet the financial requirements that applied when you first applied for your visa

After five continuous years on a family visa as a partner, you may apply for indefinite leave to remain if you meet the settlement requirements. Again, you must meet the visa requirements and continue to be in the same relationship with your British partner.

Importantly, you must begin the application process at least 28 days before your current visa expires. Failing to re-apply in time could result in you having to leave the UK.

Your UK Spouse Visa may be renewed by submitting a completed application form, paying the current visa fee, and providing any additional and updated documents. It is imperative that you take the time to make sure the paperwork is complete and accurate.

If you have been legally residing in the United Kingdom for 5-years or more on a valid partner visa, you can then apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). This means you can live and work in the UK permanently and no longer be subject to immigration control.

To gain ILR, you will need to:

• Have lived in the UK for 5 years on a family visa as a partner
• Have lived with your partner since you last renewed your visa
• Be in a genuine and subsisting relationship with your partner
• Intend to continue your relationship after you apply for ILR
• Meet the English language and Life in the UK requirements
• Prove you have suitable accommodation
• Continue to meet the financial requirements

As a UK spouse visa holder, you can live and work in the UK for up to 2 years and 9 months on your initial visa.

What this does mean is that you can legally reside, be employed, study, and access public services like healthcare through the NHS in the UK.

After five continuous years on a family visa as a partner, you may apply for indefinite leave to remain if you meet the settlement requirements; citizenship is a separate application. After ILR is granted, you may qualify for public benefits, subject to the eligibility rules for each individual benefit.

However, Spouse Visa holders face some restrictions. You may be able to switch to another visa from within the UK if you meet the requirements of that visa route.
