Spouse Visa Application Fees And Other Fees

As an Egyptian citizen applying for a Spouse Visa from outside the UK. The Home Office’s current fee is £1,523 per person. If you are submitting an application online from inside the United Kingdom, it is less, currently £1,048 per person.

The cost is the same for each dependent you wish to add to your UK Spouse Visa application.

In addition to the Spouse Visa fees, there are additional costs related to your application that you should consider when you send your forms. These include:

      • Cost for an approved English language test.
      • If you wish to receive an answer within five working days, you can pay for the Priority Premium Service from the UK Home Office.
      • If you are applying from outside the UK to enter the UK for 6-months or more, you must pay the NHS immigration health surcharge.

You can pay the visa application fees online with a debit or credit card.

      UK Spouse Visa Application Process

After meeting the eligibility criteria set out by the UK government, you can start completing the UK Spouse Visa application form. During this time, you will need to make sure you have all the correct documents to support your application to help to prevent any delays.

The documents you will need to send to the Home Office include a valid Egyptian passport, marriage certificate, and evidence that you meet the financial requirements.

Here’s how to apply for the visa:

      Step 1: Gather the documents.

      • A valid Egyptian passport with at least 6-months validity remaining.
      • Two passport-sized photos that meet the requirements set by the UK Home Office.
      • An original marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate.
      • Evidence of your relationship (e.g. shared bills, photographs, travel documents, etc).
      • Proof you have the financial means (e.g. latest bank or savings statements, wage slips)
      • If not exempt, demonstrate English language proficiency at level A1 (CEFR).
      • Proof of accommodation here in the UK for all family members.
      • Your partners national insurance number (if they have one)
      • If you have lived in a country for more than 6-months in the last 10-years categorised as a high-burden TB country, you will be required to have a Tuberculosis test.

Step 2: Complete Online Application Form

The application process for a UK Marriage Visa is completed online at the uk.gov.co.uk website. When filling out the form it is important that you provide accurate information.

If you are applying from outside the UK, you can also apply online. But you will also need to complete an Appendix 5 form VAF4A. You can find the form on the UK government website.

Step 3: Pay The Application Fee

After double-checking the details and making sure they are up to date and correct before submitting the form, you will need to pay the application visa fees.

The visa fees are currently £1,523 if applying from outside the UK. If applying from inside the UK, the visa fee is £1,048 per person.

      Step 4: Attend Biometrics Appointment

After you have completed and submitted your application form the next step is to schedule an appointment, at either a visa application centre (VAC) in Egypt or here in the UK. During this appointment you will need to provide your fingerprints and a photograph.

At the appointment you will be asked to present all the documents and you may be asked questions about your plans when you arrive in the UK, so be prepared. Do not be late for your appointment and ensure that you have all documents and photocopies.

      Step 5: Wait for Decision

Following submission of the application form, you will need to wait for a decision from the UK Home Office. Once a decision has been made they will notify you via email or mail regarding whether your visa has been approved or denied. If approved, you will be required to collect your documents, and start planning your journey.

      Spouse Visa Application Processing Time

The processing period usually takes between 2 and up to 12 weeks for a UK Spouse Visa application to be complete. This is just an estimate, and the actual time it takes can vary based on a number of factors. Including the complexity of your case, such as if you have had any previous visa rejections or have a criminal history.

Other factors that could potentially extend the time it takes for the UK government to process your visa application include:

      1. Providing incorrect information or not completing the application form fully.
      2. An appointment not being available to have your biometric data collected.
      3. If you applied during peak seasons when there are a high volume of applications.

Extending Or Renewing A UK Spouse Visa

You can renew or extend your UK Spouse Visa for a further 30-months as long as your current visa hasn’t expired. You must continue to meet the visa requirements and will be required to provide up to date documents.

      These can include:

      • A current passport
      • Evidence of your relationship with your partner
      • Provide proof you meet the financial requirements

From April 2024, you must be earning at least £29,000 per annum.

After five continuous years with a valid Partner Visa, you can apply for either a new visa or settled status. Again, you must meet the visa requirements and continue to be in the same relationship with your British partner.

Importantly, you must begin the application process at least 28 days before your current visa expires. Failing to re-apply in time could result in you having to leave the UK.

Your UK Spouse Visa may be renewed by submitting a completed application form, paying the current visa fee, and providing any additional and updated documents. It is imperative that you take the time to make sure the paperwork is complete and accurate.

Spouse Visa To Indefinite Leave To Remain

If you have been legally residing in the United Kingdom for 5-years or more on a valid partner visa, you can then apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). This means you can live and work in the UK permanently and no longer be subject to immigration control.

To gain ILR, you will need to:

        • Have lived in the UK for 5 years on a family visa as a partner
        • Have lived with your partner since you last renewed your visa
        • Be in a genuine and subsisting relationship with your partner
        • Intend to continue your relationship after you apply for ILR
        • Meet the English language and Life in the UK requirements
        • Prove you have suitable accommodation
        • Continue to meet the financial requirements

Spouse Visa Holders Rights And Benefits

As a valid UK Spouse Visa holder, you gain the right to live and work in the UK with your partner for up to a period of 30 months.

What this does mean is that you can legally reside, be employed, study, and access public services like healthcare through the NHS in the UK.

After 5-years holding a UK Partner Visa, you become eligible to apply for permanent settlement in the UK, and eventually, it can lead to you becoming a British citizen. After this point, you can access other benefits such as social, including housing, and job seeker benefits.

However, Spouse Visa holders face some restrictions. You cannot switch onto another visa from within the UK. You must travel back to Egypt if you wish to apply for a different visa.

While holding the visa, it is also essential that you and your family members adhere to all of the conditions of the visa set out by the Home Office. Failing to do so, it could lead to you being deported from the UK. It may also cause issues with any future visa applications.
