Do Egyptians Need a Visa to Visit The UK?
Egyptian citizens who wish to travel to the UK will need a Standard Visitor Visa to do so, as they will not be able to get a visa on arrival. These visas are tailored for short trips to the UK and allow the visa holder to do certain permitted activities in the country.
Standard Visitor Visas cater to tourists, those travelling for business, and those who are visiting friends and family. The application process for this visa includes the application for the visa and attending an appointment at a UK Visa Application Centre or British Embassy.
The appointment is for the applicant to provide their biometric data, submit documents, and, in some cases, attend an interview. Children from Egypt will need their own visas and passports to enter the UK. Parents or legal guardians of these children should be aware they will be responsible for the application for the child.

UK Visitor Visa Requirements for Egyptian Citizens: What You Need to Know
For an individual to apply for a UK Visitor visa from Egypt, they must meet the relevant eligibility requirements. These individuals must have a passport or travel document to be able to enter the country. The travel document or passport should be valid for the entire duration of the applicant’s stay in the country.
As well as this, applicants must be able to show that:
- They will leave the UK at the end of their visit
- They can support themselves and any of their dependents for the duration of their trip. Alternatively, if they have funding from someone else to support their stay, this must be shown
- They (or their sponsor) can pay for their return or their onward journey
- They will not live in the UK for extended periods by making successive or frequent visits to the country, and they will not make the UK their main home
On top of these requirements, an applicant may be required to meet additional eligibility requirements if they are visiting the UK for any of the following reasons:
- Studies, completing a placement, or taking an exam
- Entering the UK as an academic, a dentist, or as a senior doctor
- Entering the UK for medical reasons
UK Visitor Visa Required Documents for Egyptian Applicants
To have a smooth UK visitor visa application process, the UK government required specific documentation to be provided to demonstrate the applicant’s eligibility and travel purposes. Those applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa from Egypt should prepare the following documents for their application:
- Current passport valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the intended date of arrival in the UK
- A completed application
- Proof of financial sustainability. There is no specific amount of money that an applicant must have, but there is a requirement that the applicant provide document-based evidence to show they can cover the costs of their trip by providing financial documents such as bank statements.
- A detailed trip plan, including the purpose of their travel, their accommodation, dates they will be travelling, and planned activities in the UK. If the applicant is being hosted by someone else (such as friends or family), then an invitation letter from the host may be relevant
- Proof of visa fee payment
- Disclosure of any civil, criminal, or immigration offences they have committed. Additional documents may be required based on the circumstances of the individual

UK Visitor Visa Application Process from Egypt: A Step-by-Step Guide
Applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa is one of the easiest visa types to apply for; it is a fairly straightforward process. There are three simple steps to applying for this type of visa.
- The first step is to go to the UK government website for Standard Visitor Visa applications and start an application form. This form does not need to be completed in one sitting; it can be saved and completed later. Those who are applying with family members will need to note that each family member will need to have their own application and pay the fee.
- Once the application form is completed, submit it and arrange an appointment at a Visa Application Centre. Each person travelling will need to attend their appointment.
- After the appointment and application have been completed, the applicant must wait for a decision to be made on their application
Once an applicant has applied and proven their identity, they will typically get a decision on their visa within 3 weeks. It is possible, in some cases, to get a decision faster; however, this does come at an extra fee and is not available in every case.
When a decision is made, the applicant will receive an email or a letter informing them of the decision on the application as well as the next steps for them.
Can Egyptians Extend or Renew Their UK Visitor Visa?
If the applicant has permission to be in the UK for under 6 months, they can extend their stay for up to 6 months.
Some applicants may be able to apply for an extension for over 6 months. However, this is only possible in specific situations. This includes the following:
- Patients who are receiving private medical treatment in the UK
- Academics who still meet eligibility requirements
- Graduates who are retaking the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board test or who are doing a clinical attachment
Those who are applying to extend their stay must pay the £1,172 fee to do so. It is also critical that the applicants apply for this extension while they are still in the UK and before their current visa expires.
They will also need to provide documents specific to their situation. For example, those receiving medical treatment will need to have a medical practitioner provide details of the condition that requires further continuous treatment in the UK.
Additional Conditions for Child Visitors (Under 18)
Minor children (i.e., under 18) are eligible to apply for a UK visit visa from Egypt provided they:
- Have suitable arrangements in place with regard to their travel and accommodation in the UK
- Have written consent from their parent(s) or guardian(s) if they are travelling on their own to the UK
- Can pay for their return/onward journey from the UK
- Have sufficient funds to cover their expenses in the UK without working in the country or claiming public funds, or have family/friends in the UK who can, and will, support them financially
Moreover, for children travelling to the UK from Egypt on their own, following information must be provided at the time of the UK visitor visa application:
- Written consent from parent(s) or guardians(s) for travelling to the UK
- Parent(s)’/guardian(s)’ full contact information
