Overview of Spain Schengen Visa
A Schengen Visa for Spain allows a visa-required foreign national to enter the country and remain there for up to 90 days, in a six-month period.
EEA and Swiss nationals do not need a visa to visit Spain. Foreign nationals from visa-free countries for Spain can also travel to the country without a Schengen Visa for short stay purposes.
However, since The Philippines is a visa-required country for Spain, a Filipino citizen travelling to the country for short stay purposes will have to apply for a Schengen Visa.
Types of Schengen Visas in Spain
As a Filipino national, you may be eligible to apply for a Schengen Visa for Spain if you are travelling for any of the following purposes:
- Tourism: You would like to travel to Spain as a tourist and stay in the country for less than three months
- Study: You want to undertake a short study course in Spain, the duration of which is less than three months
- Unpaid internship: You want to undertake an unpaid internship in Spain for less than 90 days, as required to fulfil the conditions of your current course of study or employment in your home country
- Volunteering: You want to volunteer for an officially recognised organisation in Spain, where the duration of such volunteer programme is less than 90 days
- Business: You want to visit Spain to conduct or participate in business meetings or negotiations, sign a business contract, meet a supplier etc.
Medical: You want to avail medical treatment in Spain, as advised by certified healthcare professionals in your home country
Spain Schengen Visa Requirements
There are two major requirements you must fulfil to obtain a Schengen Visa for Spain. First, you will have to show that you have sufficient funds for onward and return travel to Spain as well as covering your expenses while you are staying in the country. If you have dependent family members travelling with you, you must prove that you have funds to cover their expenses, too.
In addition, you need to prove that you intend to leave Spain after your proposed duration of stay. This may be proved by evidence of your employment situation in your country of residence.

Required Documents for Schengen Visa Spain
The Schengen Visa document requirements will vary depending on the purpose of your travel to Spain. We have provided here a list of relevant documents:
- Completed and signed application form
- A cover letter detailing your purpose of visit and relevant supporting documents
- Passport or additional travel documents, valid for the duration of the travel
- Passport photos
- Photocopy of the biometric page of passport
- Copy of all previous visas, including rejected visas (if any)
- Valid travel insurance, to cover necessary medical expenses and any emergencies
- Proof of residence in the country you are applying from
- Complete travel itinerary
- Proof of intended means of transport including return ticket
- Visa fee payment receipt
- Proof of accommodation in Spain, e.g. hotel bookings, a letter from your family or friends in Spain inviting you to stay with them, etc.
- Proof of financial means, e.g. bank account statement(s) for the last three months, income tax returns, pay slips for the last three months, etc.
- Proof of your employment situation in your country of residence, e.g. employment contract and employers’ statement on approval for holidays, registration certificate of the company or business licence (for company owners or self-employed), pension statements and/or proof of regular income from other sources (if the applicant is retired), etc.
For minors, you will need to submit the following additional documents:
- Copy of identification document(s) (with signature and photo) of the parent(s)/guardians
- For minors travelling with only one parent, certified written consent from the other parent/guardian, except in cases of a parent having sole custody or guardianship of the minor, in which case a court order or other proof of sole custody or guardianship must be provided
- For minors travelling without both parents, certified written consent from both parents or guardians having custody or guardianship of the minor
How to apply for Spain Schengen Visa
Start your Spain visa application process with filling up the application form. You can access the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs website to download the application form for a Spain Schengen Visa.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has an agreement with BLS International for certain types of visa applications, including the Schengen Visa. BLS International has visa application centres (VACs) in Manian and Cebu in The Philippines.
Please get in touch with your nearest BLS International branch to make a prior appointment for submitting your application. You might have to attend an interview on the day of your appointment. Please carry all your required documents with you. If the concerned Spanish consulate asks for additional documents, you will have to submit them within the deadline mentioned.
In case you have not travelled to the Schengen area in the past five years, you will also be required to provide your biometric data (i.e. your facial image and ten fingerprints) on the day of your interview.
Please note that you will be eligible to apply for a Schengen Visa only if:
- You will not be visiting any other Schengen country, or
- Although you will be visiting other Schengen countries, you are going to spend more days in Spain than the other Schengen countries, or
- You are going to enter the Schengen Area through Spain, although you will be staying for the same number of days in the other Schengen countries you are visiting
You must also be a citizen or legal resident of the country from where you are applying for a Spain Schengen Visa.

Application Cost and Processing Time for Spain Schengen Visa
It takes around 15 days to process a Schengen Visa application. However, to avoid any unnecessary delay in processing, please ensure that you have filled up the application form completely and correctly as well as submitted all relevant supporting documents.
For adults and children over 12 years of age, the Spain Schengen Visa fee is €80. The same is €40 for children aged six to 12 years. No visa fee is required for children under six.
