Spain Tourist Visa for Visitors from Philippines

Tourists from the Philippines may obtain a Spain Tourist Visa to visit the country for leisure purposes. The Spain Tourist Visa is a short-term visa granting permission for the holder to enter Spain for a period of up to 90 days in a 180-day period.

Spain is a member of the Schengen Area, which is a group of countries across Europe who facilitate border-free travel between states. This means that holders of a Spanish Tourist Visa can also holiday elsewhere within the area.  The Schengen countries are as follows:

    • Austria
    • Belgium
    • Bulgaria
    • Croatia
    • Czech Republic
    • Denmark
    • Estonia
    • Finland
    • France
    • Germany
    • Greece
    • Hungary
    • Iceland
    • Italy
    • Latvia
    • Liechtenstein
    • Lithuania
    • Luxembourg
    • Malta
    • Netherlands
    • Norway
    • Poland
    • Portugal
    • Romania
    • Slovakia
    • Slovenia
    • Spain
    • Sweden
    • Switzerland.

Bulgaria and Romania are set to become Schengen countries but have not yet finalised their involvement.

This makes the Spanish Tourist Visa a popular option amongst travellers who wish to explore as much of Europe as they can while they’re abroad.

Do I Need to Apply for a Spanish Tourist Visa?

Those holding a Schengen or European Union (EU) passport do not need to apply for a Spanish Tourist Visa; even if they are travelling from the Philippines to then enter Spain. However, Filipino nationals with a Filipino passport must apply for the relevant visa type for the duration of their stay.

Need a helping hand to understand which visa type is right for your trip? Total Law’s expert team can advise on +44 (0) 333 305 9375.

    Spain Tourist Visa Requirements

Not everyone who applies for a Spain Tourist Visa will be granted one; there are several eligibility criteria that must be fulfilled in order to successfully obtain one. In order to demonstrate their suitability for a Spanish Tourist Visa, applicants must supply the following supporting documents along with their visa application form:

    • A valid passport
    • Copies of all pages of the passport which have any information, visa stickers or stamps on
    • Two passport standard photos (identical and no older than three months old)
    • Proof of a return travel booking or reservation that includes a date to leave Spain or leave the Schengen Area no later than 90 days after arrival
    • Proof of an accommodation booking or reservation in Spain
    • Proof of civil status (marriage certificate, birth certificate)
    • Details of medical insurance or health insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000 that is valid across all Schengen countries including repatriation cover
    • Proof of ‘sufficient funds’ to support themselves while in Spain and the Schengen Area. This must be a minimum of 90% of the gross national minimum wage for their stay.

If documents are not in Spanish, they must be accompanied by a certified translation; which is almost always the case for Filipino applicants.

How to Apply for a Spain Tourist Visa from Philippines?

The Spain Tourist Visa application process is fairly straightforward, and is completed by the applicant. For additional support, contact Total Law on +44 (0) 333 305 9375.

In the case of straightforward visa applications, the visa application process is as follows:

    Gather evidential documents

All supporting documents must be provided with the visa application form and so Total Law advises that this is done in advance of anything else. This includes the booking or reserving of travel and accommodation in Spain in order to prove that the applicant intends to leave the country at the end of their stay.

    Print application form and complete

The Spanish Tourist Visa application form can be printed off from either the Spanish government website or their partner company’s website, BLS International. It is always recommended to print two copies in case of mistakes and applicants are advised that it’s free to download. The visa application form must be completed accurately in whole and signed.

    Attend visa interview

Applicants must book and attend a visa interview, taking with them their application form and all supporting documents. This interview is around an hour long and takes place at the applicant’s local Spanish Embassy, Spanish Consulate or BLS International office.

    Wait for visa decision

Visas are not processed same-day, even at an Embassy or Consulate. Instead the applicant leaves and waits to be advised of the decision.

    Travel to Spain

Once a valid visa has been granted, the applicant is free to complete their Spanish travel plans.

Not all visa applications are successful. In the case of a visa refusal, there is an appeals process. For more information call +44 (0) 333 305 9375 and work with a Total Law specialist.

How Long Does it Take To Get a Tourist Visa for Spain?

A Spain Tourist Visa application can not be filed any sooner than 180 days or later than 21 days before travel. On average, it takes three weeks for Tourist Visas to be processed, but it can take up to two months during busy periods – so it is advised to file sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment or travel plans being postponed.

How Much Does it Cost To Get a Tourist Visa for Spain?

A non-refundable visa fee payment of €90 is payable in order for the visa to be processed. For children aged 6-12, the fee is €45 and for those under six, it’s free.

      Spain Tourist/Visitor Visa Validity

The Spanish Tourist Visa is only valid for a single stay in the Schengen Area of up to 90 days in a 180-day period; which is known as ‘The 180 Day Rule’. This applies across all Schengen countries and so travellers are advised that if they wish to travel anywhere within the Schengen Zone which will take them over these 90 days, they should apply for a longer term visa.
