An Overview of French Family Visas
The France Family visa is specifically designed for foreign nationals who wish to enter France to visit a family member. The family member could be a child, spouse, or parents.
As a UAE citizen, you are not required to obtain a France Family visa if you want to visit your family member resident in France for a period that does not exceed 90 days.
This is due to the bilateral agreement that exists between the UAE and the European Union that allows UAE citizens to enter and stay in Schengen countries (of which France is among) for 90 days within 180 days. UAE citizens must obtain a visa to stay in France for more than 90 days.
The France Family visa allows for both Long-Stay and Short-Stay family visits. The Long-Stay (visa type D) family visit allows the applicant to enter France and stay for up to 1 year. Whereas the Short-Stay family visit (visa court séjour visite familiale) allows its holder to enter and stay in France for up to 3 months.
You are required to obtain a residence permit from the French authorities if you want to join a family member via a France Long-Stay visa. Note that your family member whom you are going to visit in France must have resided in the country legally for at least 18 months or 12 months if they are Algerians.
There are several France Family visa types designed for UAE citizens who wish to stay in France for more than 90 days. Besides that, non-UAE citizens resident in the UAE whose countries do not have visa-free agreements with France can also choose from these visa types to visit their family members in France.
