Do I Need a Visa to Visit Germany from the US?
US citizens are allowed to visit Germany visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days, provided they have a valid US international passport. This is because the US and the Schengen countries of which Germany is among have a visa liberalization agreement. However, residents in the US whose home countries do not have such an agreement with the Schengen countries must obtain a Germany Tourist visa to enter the country.
Generally, you must obtain a Germany Tourist visa if your country does not have a visa liberalization agreement with Germany and other countries in the Schengen Area. If you have dual citizenship, the passport you choose to travel with will determine whether you must obtain a Germany Tourist visa or not.
Where to Apply for a Germany Tourist Visa in the US?
The German Consulate closest to you is the place you need to apply for a Germany Tourist visa. Therefore you must schedule an appointment for a Germany Schengen Tourist visa through the BLS International German consular services provider except the Consulate General of Atlanta. You should only apply through the Consulate General of Atlanta if you live in that jurisdiction and not through the BLS International service provider.
