Step 1. Complete the Tourist Visa Application Form

Step 2. Assemble Your Documents

Bring all the required documents for your Germany Tourist visa application. This stage is one of the most important aspects of your application. The reason is that your application may be rejected if you do not include the vital documents needed to ensure your eligibility to enter Germany.

Step 3. Fix an Appointment

You must schedule an online appointment with a German Consulate General closest to you as they do not allow walk-ins. Therefore, schedule an appointment for a Short-Stay Schengen visa and get ready for your interview.

Step 4. Attend the Appointment

You must arrive on time at the appointment or else you may be required to leave and reschedule an appointment or your application may be rejected. Ensure you attend the appointment with all the supporting documents for your Tourist visa application. Note that your documents must be in German or English.

Your biometric information (fingerprints and photographs)may be required at the interview. You will be asked to submit your application documents and may be asked several questions about the information in the documents you have submitted.

Step 5. Pay the Tourist Visa Fee

Pay the Germany Visit visa fee. Your nationality may require you to pay €90 as an adult, or €45 for each child (from 6 to 12 years) who is coming with you to Germany. Also, you may even pay less depending on your nationality.

Step 6. Await the Tourist Visa

Get ready to embark on your trip to Germany while waiting for a decision on your Germany visit visa. When your application is approved, you will be notified to come and pick it up by yourself or arrange for courier services to get it to you.

US residents whose countries do not have a visa-free agreement with Germany must provide the following documents to apply for a Germany Tourist visa. Below are the Germany Tourist visa requirements:

• Two passport-sized photographs recently taken (within the last 3 months, and meet the requirements of Germany visa application photos.
• Your accurately completed and signed Tourist visa application form. Ensure you do not include any false information in your application form as your visa application may be rejected without a second thought if the immigration officials doubt the authenticity of your information.
• Valid US international passport. It must still be valid for up to 3 months beyond the expiry of your Tourist visa. It must have a minimum of 2 blank pages where your visa sticker will be affixed.
• Travel health insurance. You must provide evidence of having health insurance to cover any unplanned medical expenses while you are in Germany. Your travel health insurance is typically worth €30,000.
• Round-trip flight ticket. This must state your date of entry and expected departure date from Germany. It shows that you have a plan to leave Germany once your Tourist visa expires.
• Tour organizer’s letter (if you will be traveling with a tour agency).
• Evidence of sufficient funds. You must prove that you have enough finances to cater to yourself when you enter Germany. To prove this you need to provide your bank statements, affidavit of support (if someone will sponsor your trip to Germany), etc.

• Letter of invitation, if you were invited to Germany by a host.
• Evidence of your relationship with the host who resides in Germany.
• A letter of commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung). Your host in Germany must obtain this form from the German immigration authorities after their solvency has been verified.
• Evidence of accommodation. You must prove to the German authorities that you have a place to stay when you enter Germany. The immigration officials must be convinced that you will not become stranded when you enter Germany. To prove this, you must present a rental contract (if you have rented a place to stay while in the country), a hotel reservation (which bears your name, phone number, email, and complete address while you are in Germany), Airbnb, and so on.
• Travel itinerary. This should explain your purpose for entering Germany, the places you intend to visit in the Schengen zone, the duration of your stay in Germany, and your personal information.
• Proof of employment status. If you are self-employed, provide your company’s bank statement for the last 6 months, your income tax returns, and your business license copy. If you are employed, you must provide your income tax return, a leave permission from your employer, and your employment contract.
• For Minors. You must provide the child’s custody decree, birth certificate or proof of adoption (if the child’s parents are divorced), parents’ death certificate (if the parents are dead).
• Letter of consent. Both parents of the child must consent to the idea of the child entering Germany.
