    UK Global Talent Visa Requirements

    Eligibility Criteria

Typically, you can only apply for the Global Talent visa if you have already acquired an endorsement from one of six endorsing bodies which proves that you are a leader or potential leader in your field.

    The six endorsing bodies are:

    • UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
    • Royal Society
    • The British Academy
    • The Royal Academy of Engineering
    • Tech Nation
    • Arts Council England

It is also possible to apply for this visa without an endorsement if you have won an eligible award.

    Required Documents

In order to successfully apply for the Global Talent visa, you’ll need to provide the following documents as part of your application:

    • A valid passport or travel document (with one blank page available)
    • Tuberculosis test results
    • Written permission to apply if you’ve received a scholarship or award for UK study in the last year
    • Evidence of winning an eligible award is checked against public information; you may be asked for proof only if necessary

    Application Fees

The application fee for this visa is £716. If you’re applying for the visa with an endorsement, you’ll pay this fee in two parts. £524 when you apply for the endorsement, and £192 when you complete the actual visa application.

Those applying with an eligible award must pay the full £716 when submitting their visa application. If you include any dependents on this visa, they will each need to pay £716 also.

You’ll also need to pay a healthcare surcharge. This is usually £1,035 per year for each person applying, but can vary depending on your circumstances.

How to Apply for the Global Talent Visa

    • Ensure that you meet all of the eligibility requirements for this visa category

Global Talent Visa Application Processing Time

Ghanaian citizens applying for a Global Talent visa from outside of the UK can expect to wait around 3 weeks before they receive a decision on their application. If you are applying from within the UK, the processing time extends to around 8 weeks.

The processing time of your application can take longer than expected depending on the specific circumstances relating to your case. For example, if you’re applying with dependents and they require an appointment, if your documentation needs to be verified, if you are required to attend an interview, or if you have a criminal record, you will likely experience delayed processing times.

Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to pay a fee in order to get a faster decision.

Global Talent Visa Validity Period & Renewal Extension Options

The validity period for the Global Talent visa is 5 years. You can apply to extend your visa if the endorsement that your application was based on has not withdrawn its approval. The same applies if you applied with an eligible award and the award has not been withdrawn.

You must also be able to demonstrate that you have made money in your field during your time in the UK, which is usually evidenced by payslips.

You can apply to extend your visa for up to 5 years at a time, and renew your visa as many times as you like, provided that you continue to meet all of the eligibility requirements. You may also be able to apply for indefinite leave to remain after 3 or 5 years, depending on your field, which will allow you to settle permanently in the UK.

      Bringing Dependents

It is possible for Ghanaian citizens applying for the Global Talent visa to bring dependents with them to the UK, provided that fulfil all eligibility requirements. Dependents can include your spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner, children under 18, or children over 18 currently in the UK as your dependent. You’ll be required to provide evidence of your relationship to your dependent(s) when you apply.

If your partner or children are outside of the UK, they will have to complete a separate application, applying as a partner or as a child. If your dependents are inside the UK, they will have to extend or switch their visa before their current visa expires.

Dependents on the Global Talent visa are entitled to work (except as a sportsperson or coach), study, and travel abroad and return to the UK. However, they cannot access most public funds or the State Pension.
