Overview of UK Work Visa from the UAE
UK Work Visas permit UAE citizens to work legally in the UK. UAE citizens can find job opportunities in different fields with a UK work permit.
Different types of Work Visas are available, and it is important to apply for the most appropriate one to avoid having your application rejected or delayed.
Ensure you meet the requirements and understand how to apply, how much it costs, and how long it takes to process. The visa you apply for will depend on your specific situation and the purpose of your planned relocation.
Work Visa Requirements in the UK for UAE Immigration
Eligible applicants from the UAE can apply for a UK Work Visa, but you must meet set criteria. This includes:
- Valid UAE passport with at least one blank page.
- Proof of Dubai resident status (such as an original or a certified copy of your permanent residence certificate).
- Proof of address (e.g., utility bills or a recent bank statement).
- Evidence of employment or job prospects (e.g., an offer letter or contract).
- Health and criminal background checks.

Types of Work Visas in the UK
UAE applicants can apply for any type of UK Work Visa if they meet the requirements. The main UK Work Visas include the following:
Skilled Worker Visa
The Skilled Worker Visa allows UAE citizens to work for an approved employer in the UK. You need a job offer from a UK employer, a valid Certificate of Sponsorship, proficient English language skills, and a minimum salary threshold of (£41,700) to qualify.
You can apply for settlement after five years on a Skilled Worker Visa, and it is possible to apply for an extension.
It is possible to bring dependents to the UK on a Skilled Worker Visa, but the applicant must prove they can support themselves and any family members during their time in the UK.
Global Business Mobility
The Global Business Mobility routes are for UAE workers coming to the UK for work. There are different routes for each type of worker.
- UK Expansion Worker for senior managers or specialists arriving in the UK to assist a business in expanding into a new market.
- Service Supplier route for those working for an overseas service provider or self-employed professionals.
- Senior or Specialist Worker route for senior managers or specialists working in the UK for a business connected to their overseas employer.
- Secondment Worker route for seconded to the UK as part of a significant contract or investment from their overseas employer.
High Potential Individual (HPI) Visa
The High Potential Individual (HPI) Visa lets you work or be self-employed in the UK for two or three years, depending on your qualifications. There are some restrictions on the time of work you can undertake, and the HPI is not a path to settled status or citizenship as it can not be renewed.
Scale-up Worker Visa
The Scale-up Worker visa allows you to work for a qualifying UK business for at least six months. Your employer must meet specific criteria to sponsor you, and the role must meet minimum salary requirements and be on the eligible occupations list.
You can initially stay in the UK for two years and then extend your visa every three years if you still meet the requirements. After five years, it is possible to apply for permanent residence.
Health and Care Worker Visa
The Health and Care Worker Visa lets medical professionals work in the UK with the NHS, an NHS supplier, or in adult social care. To qualify, you must be a qualified doctor, nurse, health or adult social care professional, have a valid job offer from a Home Office licensed sponsor UK employer, and meet the minimum salary requirement.
Your visa can be issued for up to five years and extended if you meet the criteria. After five years, you may apply for permanent settlement. You can apply online, and processing usually takes three weeks.
Changes to the visa mean new applicants may be unable to bring dependents unless you are employed in certain roles. Reach out to Total Law for more information.
