Tracking Your UK Visa Application: An Overview

If they fulfil the Standard Visitor visa requirements, Spanish citizens do not require a visa to travel to the UK for less than six months. However, Spaniards must obtain appropriate UK visas before travelling to the country for work, business or study purposes or to join their family members for longer than six months (unless they are still eligible to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme).

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) starts processing a visa application once the applicant has submitted their passport and other supporting documents and provided their biometric information (e.g., facial photo and fingerprints) at a designated visa application centre (VAC). Depending on the visa type, it takes approximately three to 24 weeks to receive a decision.

While the official Gov.UK site provides the usual visa processing time per the latest UKVI estimate, waiting weeks to receive a decision can be taxing. More so, any unforeseen delay in getting a decision may put your UK travel preparation on hold.  Therefore, most applicants want to know if there are any ways to track the progress of their UK visa applications.

Can UKVI Help With My UK Visa Tracking?

It is possible to contact UKVI in the UK or from Spain to track the progress of your UK visa application only if you have been waiting for a decision longer than the usual processing time for your visa category. You will not get a status update from them if you are still within the usual time limits.

You may visit the UKVI website to fill out an online query form. Each query requires a one-time payment of £2.74 and can be paid via a credit or debit card. The form also allows you to receive your reply emails in Spanish.

You may expect a reply via email within five days (except on Fri-Sun and UK public holidays).

If your query is urgent or you are not comfortable using online/email services, UKVI has a helpline number. You may call +44 (0)300 790 6268 or +44 (0)203 875 4669 at 69 pence/minute in addition to your standard network charges.

If you need to speak with their Spanish-speaking staff, call between 1300 and 0100 UK local time (Monday through Friday).

UK Visa Tracking Through TLSContact Website

TLScontact is the official third-party service provider in Spain for UK consular services. They have centres in Barcelona and Madrid where applicants must book their visa appointments. If you are within your visa processing time limit but would like to track the status of your UK visa application, you may do so via their website.

You may require your UK visa tracking GWF number to check your application status. It is a nine-digit unique reference number (e.g. GWF123456789) that may have been assigned to you during your visa application process.

                FAQs

No. The British Embassy in Madrid or Consulates in Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza, Las Palmas, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife cannot help with your UK visa enquiries, since the UK consular services in Spain have been outsourced to TLSContact.

Please contact UKVI immediately if there is a delay with your visa processing and you have received no Home Office communication regarding the same. You may submit an official complaint to UKVI if that does not resolve your issue. A Judicial Review is your last resort in such a scenario. Call us on +44 (0)333 305 9375 to discuss your options.
