      Types of UK Family Visas

      Albanian citizens who want to join a spouse, fiance, parent or child in the UK can choose from the following UK Family visa types:

      UK Spouse Visa

      This visa is designed for Albanian citizens who want to join their spouse or partner who lives in the United Kingdom. The UK Spouse visa is also known as a Partner visa and it allows its holder to live, study, and work in the UK.

      This visa is valid for 2 years and 9 months and when it’s about to expire, you can renew it and stay for up to 5 years. After that, you can apply for indefinite leave to remain and may qualify to apply for British citizenship after an additional year in the UK provided you meet all the requirements.

      To qualify for this visa, the Albanian applicant is required to be in a civil partnership or married to their UK-based sponsor. Besides that, this visa holder is required to have been in a genuine and subsisting relationship with the UK spouse for at least 2 years.

      Requirements for UK Spouse Visa

      As an Albanian citizen who wants to obtain a UK Spouse visa, you need to meet the following eligibility requirements:

      • You and your spouse must be at least 18 years old by the time you apply for the visa.
      • You must provide an English proficiency test result with at least A1.
      • You must have adequate accommodation already in place for you and any other dependent coming with you to the UK. The accommodation must meet the UK living standard.
      • You need to prove that you’re in a genuine relationship with your close relative who lives in the UK.
      • You must prove that the combined income you and your partner earn each fiscal year is a minimum of £18,600 as of now, but £29,000 by Spring 2024 and could be increased to £38,700 by early 2025.
      • The relationship between you and your spouse must be legally recognised in the UK.

      UK Parent Visa

      The UK Parent visa is designed for Albanian citizens who are parents of a child who resides in the UK. This visa allows parents to enter the UK and take care of their children. Albanian citizens holding the UK Parent visa are permitted to live, study and work in the UK.

      The initial allowable stay on this visa is 2 years and 9 months which is extendable to a further 2 years and 6 months. After staying in the UK for up to 5 years on this visa, you can apply for indefinite leave to remain.

      While applying to join your child in the UK, your child must be under 18 years old and must not be living independently. You must also have shared or sole parental custody of the child.

      Requirements for UK Parent Visa

      As a parent of the child, you must meet the following requirements. You must:

      • Prove that you’re playing an active role in your child’s upbringing.
      • Prove that the other parent of the child is not your partner if you have sole or shared responsibility for the child.
      • Be proficient in English.
      • Be able to financially support yourself and your child when you enter the UK.

      UK Fiance Visa

      This visa is designed for Albanian citizens who would want to enter the UK and get married to or enter into a civil partnership with their UK-based partner in 6 months.

      After entering into a civil partnership or getting married to your UK-based partner on this visa, you can switch to a UK Spouse visa if you wish to remain with your partner in the United Kingdom.

      Requirements for UK Fiance Visa

      Albanian citizens who want to obtain a UK Fiance visa must meet the following eligibility criteria:

      • You and your spouse must be more than 18 years old by the time you apply.
      • Your partner must be settled in the UK or a British citizen.
      • You must intend to get married to or enter into a civil partnership with your partner within the visa’s 6-month validity period.
      • You must wish to live with your partner in the UK after entering a civil partnership or marriage.
      • You need to show there’s adequate accommodation for you and your partner in the UK.
      • You must prove your English proficiency.
      • You and your partner’s combined income must not be below £18,600 (and up to £29,000 by Spring 2024).

      Documents Required for UK Family Visas
