Global Talent Visa UK: An Overview
The Global Talent Visa is open to exceptional and promising talents in the fields of academia and research, arts and culture, and digital technology. Applicants for this visa route must be recognised leaders (established professionals) or potential leaders (with less than five years of experience) in their fields.
Individuals eligible for Global Talent Visas do not need job sponsorship to move to the UK. However, to qualify, they must have obtained an official endorsement from a UKVIS-approved endorsing body or received a globally recognised prestigious prize.
Because the Global Talent Visa route does not require sponsorship, UK employers do not have to undergo the rigorous process of obtaining and maintaining a sponsor licence.
Also, there are no restrictions on the number of applicants that can be admitted via this visa route. This makes it easier for UK establishments to hire top foreign talent.
Global Talent Visa holders also do not have to notify the Home Office of job changes. The Global Talent Visa is valid for five years and allows unlimited extensions.
However, you may qualify for permanent settlement after three years of residing in the UK on a Global Talent Visa as an exceptional talent and after five years as a promising talent. There’s no minimum income or language requirement for this visa route.

UK Global Talent Visa Requirements & Eligibility
Arts and Culture
Arts Council England covers combined arts, dance, literature, music, theatre, and visual arts.
The baseline is outstanding work, performed, presented, distributed, or exhibited internationally, with regular professional engagement over the last 5 years.
- A CV and three dated letters: two from established arts organisations you’ve worked with (one UK-based), and a third from another organisation or an individual with recognised standing in your field
- Exceptional talent: a substantial track record across at least two countries, backed by two qualifying pieces of evidence, significant media recognition, an international award, or internationally significant exhibitions, sales, or appearances
- Exceptional promise: an early-career applicant with a developing track record in one or more countries, still needing two forms of evidence
Architecture
RIBA handles architecture endorsements on behalf of the Arts Council England.
The bar is the same shape as arts and culture, outstandingly presented, published, or internationally exhibited work, with 5 years of regular engagement in the field.
- A CV and three letters: two from established architecture organisations (one UK-based), a third from another organisation or a recognised individual
- Exceptional talent: a track record spanning two countries
- Exceptional promise: a track record in one country
- Either route needs two qualifying pieces of evidence, an award, media recognition, or internationally significant publications or exhibitions
Design Industry
A new field was added to Appendix Global Talent in 2026, endorsed by the Design Business Association (DBA) on behalf of Arts Council England. It covers product, graphic, UX, service, industrial, and spatial design, among other design disciplines.
You must be professionally engaged in producing outstanding applied, published, distributed, or internationally exhibited work, with regular professional design work over the last 5 years.
- A CV and 3 dated letters of recommendation, 2 from well-established design organisations you have worked with (at least one UK-based) and a third from another organisation or individual with recognised experience in design
- Exceptional talent: a substantial track record in at least 2 countries, evidenced by significant media recognition, an international design award, or internationally significant professional appearances, publications, exhibitions, or sales
- Exceptional promise: an early-career applicant with a developing track record in one or more countries, evidenced by recent media recognition, an award nomination or shortlisting, or recognised appearances, publications, or exhibitions
Fashion Design Industry
The British Fashion Council assesses this field. You need a leading design role in a fashion business, plus 5 years of regular industry engagement.
- A CV and 3 dated letters of recommendation, 2 from well-established fashion organisations (at least one UK-based) and a third from another organisation or individual with recognised expertise
- Exceptional talent: outstanding work sold or exhibited internationally through catwalk or other shows, with a substantial track record in at least 2 countries
- Exceptional promise: a developing track record in at least 1 country, which can be evidenced through support from schemes such as British Fashion Council initiatives, Fashion East, or The Sarabande Foundation, or through orders from a luxury retailer
Film and Television
Pact assesses this field for Arts Council England, and only for exceptional talent; there’s no exceptional promise route here.
- A Main Award win at any point (Academy Award, an eligible BAFTA, Golden Globe, or Emmy)
- A nomination for, or significant contribution to, a Main Award in the last 10 years
- At least two Main Award nominations across the last 15 years
- Notable industry recognition across at least two productions, backed by distribution sales, media coverage, and the right mix of awards from Pact’s Notable Industry Recognition Awards List
- A CV and three letters are still required, two from established film and television organisations (one UK-based)
Digital Technology
Endorsed by Tech Nation. What counts as “exceptional” varies by applicant type: technical applicants need proven expertise in building or deploying technology stacks and infrastructure; business applicants need commercial, investment, or product expertise in leading digital businesses.
- A CV containing career and publication history
- Three dated recommendation letters from different established digital technology experts who have known the applicant’s work for at least 12 months
- Up to 10 documents showing that the applicant meets the evidential criteria
- Evidence of their connection to a digital technology business if they have been a founder or senior executive during the last 5 years
- Exceptional talent: applicants must provide at least two pieces of evidence across two qualifying criteria. These criteria cover innovation, recognition beyond the applicant’s occupation, significant technical, commercial or entrepreneurial contributions, and academic contributions through expert-endorsed or published research
- Exceptional promise: applicants must be at an early stage of their career and provide at least two pieces of evidence across two qualifying criteria. Their evidence can show innovation, recognition beyond their occupation, contributions as a founder or employee of a product-led digital technology company, or academic contributions through research endorsed by an expert
Science, Engineering, Humanities, Social Science and Medicine
The Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the British Academy, and UKRI split this territory among themselves by discipline.
Whichever body assesses you, you’ll need to already be an active researcher, academic, industry professional, or government employee.
- Fast track: applicants must hold, or have held in the last 5 years, an eligible peer-reviewed fellowship or award; hold an eligible academic or research appointment at an approved UK institution; or be hosted by a UKRI-approved organisation on a substantial research grant
- Academic appointments specifically must require a PhD or equivalent research experience, with research or innovation leadership built into the role
- Full peer review: a PhD or equivalent, active research work, and, for exceptional promise applicants, still early in career
- Full peer-review applicants need a CV and a letter from an eminent UK-based figure; exceptional talent applicants need a second letter from a senior figure at a recognised research or innovation organisation
Every field comes back to the same principle: your evidence has to map onto that field’s specific criteria, not just your career achievements in general.
Global Talent Visa Application Process
You need an endorsement to be eligible for a Global Talent Visa, so you must obtain one before applying. While it’s possible to apply for a visa and endorsement simultaneously, your visa application will only be accepted if the endorsement decision comes before your visa application is processed.
The steps to applying for a Global Talent Visa are as follows.
Step 1. Check eligibility: Before starting your application, ensure you meet all eligibility requirements to avoid wasting time and resources. You must be able to prove you’re an exceptional or promising talent to stand a chance.
Step 2. Apply for endorsement: You need an endorsement to prove you’re a leader or potential leader in your field. You’ll make the endorsement application to the Home Office, which will forward your application to the relevant endorsing body for review. To apply,
- Register on the UK Visas and Immigration website using your email address.
- Complete the online application.
- Upload all required supporting documentation and pay the endorsement fee.
- Receive your endorsement letter and use it to apply for the visa.
Step 3. Complete the online visa application: Sign in to your UKVI account and complete the online Global Talent Visa application form. You may then be required to make an appointment at a visa application centre.
Step 4. Prepare supporting documents: Gather all required documents, including your endorsement letter, in preparation for your visa appointment.
Step 5. Pay applicable fees: You must pay a visa application fee and an Immigration Health Surcharge of £1035 when applying for the Global Talent Visa.
Step 6. Attend your visa appointment: You may need to go for an appointment at a UK visa application centre, where you’ll submit your biometric information (fingerprints and photos). You’ll also submit your supporting documents during this appointment.
Step 7. Wait for a decision: The Home Office will review your application and decide between two and four weeks. Depending on your location, you’ll be notified of the decision via email or post. You can travel to the UK once your visa application is approved.
You can skip the second step if you have received a prestigious award since you’ll be eligible to apply for a Global Talent Visa without endorsement.

Documents Required for UK Global Talent Visa Application
The documents required for a UK Global Talent visa depend on whether you apply through an endorsement or as the winner of an eligible prestigious prize. Applicants from Bangladesh follow the same Global Talent visa rules as applicants from other countries outside the UK
If you apply through endorsement, you must first submit your endorsement application to the relevant endorsing body. The documents needed depend on your field: academia or research, arts and culture, or digital technology
Your endorsement application may require:
- A CV setting out your career history, achievements and relevant publications
- Recommendation letters from recognised experts in your field, where required by the endorsing body
- Evidence that you meet the relevant exceptional talent or exceptional promise criteria
- Up to 10 supporting evidence documents, where required under your endorsement pathway
- Documents showing your connection to a technology business if you are applying under the digital technology pathway as a founder or senior executive
For example, digital technology applicants must provide a CV, three recommendation letters and a maximum of 10 evidence documents. The endorsing body assesses these documents during the endorsement stage.
After receiving an endorsement, you must submit your Global Talent visa application within three months of the endorsement date. Applicants who have won an eligible prestigious prize can apply directly for the visa without first obtaining an endorsement.
When submitting the visa application, you will need:
- A valid passport or another document that proves your identity and nationality
- Valid tuberculosis test results if you are required to take a test
- A certified translation for any document that is not in English or Welsh
- Written permission from your scholarship or award provider if you received funding to study in the UK within the past 12 months, and that funding covered both fees and living costs
UKVI may request additional information or supporting documents during the application assessment.
Global Talent Visa Application Fees
The Global Talent visa costs £766 in total. If you apply through endorsement, you pay it in two parts: a £561 endorsement fee, then a £205 visa application fee.
If you apply on the basis of an eligible prestigious prize, you pay £766 as a single fee. Each dependant pays £766. You and each dependant also pay the Immigration Health Surcharge of £1,035 per year.
Application Processing Time
The Global Talent visa application process may involve two stages: endorsement and the visa application. Applicants who have won an eligible prestigious prize can apply for the visa without first obtaining an endorsement.
If you apply from Bangladesh, you will receive a decision on your Global Talent visa application within 3 weeks. This timeframe begins after you submit the online application, prove your identity and provide the required documents.
Applicants who apply to switch to or extend a Global Talent visa from inside the UK will receive a decision within 8 weeks.
Endorsement processing times depend on the route used. For academia and research, fast-track endorsement applications based on an eligible job, fellowship or UK Research and Innovation grant are decided within 2 weeks. Peer-review endorsement applications are decided within 5 weeks.
You should receive a successful endorsement decision before submitting a priority or super priority visa application. Priority processing is not available for the endorsement stage. Applicants outside the UK may have access to priority or super-priority services at the visa stage, depending on the services available in the country where they apply.
UKVI may take longer to decide an application if supporting documents need to be verified, an interview is required, a dependant needs to attend an appointment, or your personal circumstances require further assessment.
Global Talent Visa Validity Period & Renewal in UK
When applying for a Global Talent visa, you can choose how long you want your permission to be valid. Your visa can be granted for a maximum of 5 years.
You may apply to extend a Global Talent visa for up to 5 years at a time. There is no limit on the number of extensions you can apply for, provided that you continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
You may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain, also known as settlement, after 3 or 5 years in the UK. The qualifying period depends on the basis of your Global Talent application.
You can apply for settlement after 3 years if you were endorsed by the British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering, Royal Society or UK Research and Innovation. The 3-year period also applies if Arts Council England or Tech Nation endorsed you under the exceptional talent criteria, or if you received your visa on the basis of an eligible prestigious prize.
You can apply after 5 years if Arts Council England or Tech Nation endorsed you under the exceptional promise criteria. You must meet the relevant settlement requirements when applying, including the continuous-residence rules.
If you do not yet qualify for indefinite leave to remain, you may apply to extend your Global Talent visa. You must apply before your current visa expires. You must also show that you earned money in your field of expertise while in the UK, and that your endorsement or an eligible prestigious prize has not been withdrawn.
After receiving indefinite leave to remain, you can apply for British citizenship once you have held ILR for 12 months. You must also meet the nationality requirements, including the required period of residence in the UK. Applicants married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen may be able to apply as soon as they hold ILR.
Bringing Dependants on Global Talent Visa UK
Global Talent visa holders can bring eligible dependants to the UK. Eligible dependants include a spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner and children.
An eligible dependant child can be:
- A child under 18, including a child born in the UK during the main applicant’s stay
- A child over 18 who already has permission to stay in the UK as a Global Talent visa holder’s dependant
A child must live with the Global Talent visa holder unless they live away from home for full-time education. They must not be married or in a civil partnership.
A partner must show that their relationship meets the relevant Home Office requirements. This may involve providing evidence of a UK-recognised marriage or civil partnership, at least 2 years of cohabitation, or an ongoing relationship of at least 2 years in which living together has not been possible.
Each dependant must submit a separate online application. They will need the Global Talent visa applicant’s application number so that UKVI can link the applications. Dependants applying from outside the UK must apply before travelling to the UK.
The application fee is £766 for each dependant as of 8 April 2026. Each dependant must also pay the immigration health surcharge at the applicable rate. The current published adult surcharge is £1035 per year of requested permission.
If approved, a dependant’s visa will expire on the same date as the Global Talent visa holder’s permission. Where both parents have visas with different expiry dates, the child’s visa will expire on the earlier date.
Switching to a Global Talent Visa in UK
You may be able to switch to a Global Talent visa if you are already in the UK with valid immigration permission. You must meet the Global Talent visa eligibility requirements and submit your application before your current permission expires.
If you have won an eligible prestigious prize, you can apply for the Global Talent visa directly. If you have not won an eligible prestigious prize, you must obtain an endorsement before applying to switch. You must submit the visa application within 3 months of the endorsement date.
If you are in the UK on a Student visa, you can only switch to a Global Talent visa if you have completed the course for which you were sponsored or have studied a full-time PhD for at least 24 months.
Your partner and children must submit separate applications to switch to Global Talent dependant visas. They can apply at the same time as you or at any time before their current permission expires.
You cannot switch to a Global Talent visa from within the UK if you are:
- On a visit visa
- On a short-term student visa
- On a Parent of a Child Student visa
- On a seasonal worker visa
- On a domestic worker in a private household visa
- On immigration bail
- In the UK, with permission granted outside the Immigration Rules, such as permission on compassionate grounds
